6th March, I joined my classmates’ charity trip to an orphanage house in Klang. The house, Rumah Munirah was built on 2003 and accepted their first batch of orphans in 2005(if I’m not mistaken). For more details, just click here.
Before leaving to the house, my head was kept on thinking about the house that we went before, Raudhah in Gombak. The children there were so ‘challenging’. Can you just sit when a boy kept on interrupting your words? Thank God as I left the house for home, nobody got killed!
However, in Rumah Munirah, the children there were totally different. They were much obedient to us, in some way (still, kids are kids and you just can do nothing about it).
On the D-day, we arrived quite late, since we had to wait for the bus to pick us. Some facilitators had departed earlier so they can begin the event not far from the allocated time. By the time we got there, we immediately entered the hall for ice breaking session. When the ice broke, we cleaned up some areas around the house. I chose to lay my hands on the store (I was so surprised to see how ‘rich’ they were!).
Then after cleaning up the store, we played some games and had some fun with the kids. Later, we had our lunch. While having lunch, I had some chance to talk to some of the kids. After listening to them, I guess I am so lucky in this world.
One of the kids that chatted with me lost his dad two years ago. He got into the house last year. Another one had lost his dad last year, and had stayed in the house for a few months. Both were in primary school. Can you imagine the test they bear? At such young age they had lost the person they rely upon. That must be very tough. I don’t think I would be good as they are if I were in their shoes. May He grant them with His Prosper, as He said in al-Quran, those who succeed His test, He will grant them the Heaven.
At the house, the main foundation is the al-Quran. So, they need to memorize the verses and surah in the Book. I managed to listen to one of them, Mukmin who recited a few verses from surah Sajdah per my request. It was interesting to hear a very good recitation from a primary level child.
We spent our time until Zuhur, and after praying, we went home. This programme might be very short but somehow it gave me something. After I kept on complaining with what I have, finally I opened my eyes. I am considered as lucky to have everything. I still have my family, I have some money, I have my own transport.
Well, all I have to do is be thankful, stop moaning and ‘suit up’! J
